Well, it was that time of the year at the Bernal MS Library. And even though I was uber excited that it was our first fall book fair, I did have my concerns. Do middle schoolers even like the book fair? Do middle schoolers even care about spending their money on books? Or would they rather get locked in the stocks for not reading? Hmmmmm....
The week started off slow and I was beginning to worry that maybe my days of fundraising via the book fair were over. Setting up and packing up the book fair are my least favorite things to do all year long so I, along with my back, wasn't going to miss that at all. But the book fair is the main, if not the only, form of fundraising for the library so I was worried about missing out on that.
But my middle school readers came through in the end! There were so many good books out there and our middle schoolers wanted them all.
I learned promoting daily on Instagram is their favorite. Several students told me they loved seeing the cool books on their Instagram because it reminded them to come in and get them.
Because of our library's layout I was able to keep the library open and our computers accessible as well. Closing the library for whatever reason, even the book fair, is not really my idea of great week but, thankfully, I was able to sell books at the book fair AND share books through check-out. So, this was a great week after all!
Ok, maybe not so great because I still had to break down the book fair all by myself and my back didn't think that was so great! But, hey, when you're a librarian you're a jack of all trades, juggling a million and one things in the air. Sometimes you're a salesperson. Sometimes you're an accountant and sometimes, when it's a good week, you get to be a librarian. The best job in the world!
